The Course in Pharmacy was established at Oregon Agricultural College in 1898 with a four-year program leading to a B.S. degree in pharmacy, at a time when most pharmaceutical curricula were only 2-year programs. Leo Sciuchetti received a B.S. degree from Idaho State College in 1940, an M.S. from Washington State College in 1942, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1957. He came to Oregon State College in 1946 and was a Professor of Pharmacognosy until his resignation in June 1967. He spent the 1966/67 academic year as an Associate Program Director at the National Science Foundation.
